Just wanted to post one of my favorite images from the overview image in the InStudio Camera room August 18th 2008 blog. 2 fill lights, 2 main lights + a hair/edge light, all Elinchrom. Also had a bright silver Photoflex reflector help with the edge light from the back.

Photographing People Part 3 went great!

Posted on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 02:27PM by Registered Commenterkennethlinge in , , | Comments2 Comments

This last Saturday we did our first Photographing People Part 3 and it was sooo nice to see the photographers put to use what they learned in Part 1 & 2. It was impressive to see their understanding of light! We first shot downtown SLC, then went out to the Great Salt Lake with Mr.GSL himself (Charles Uibel www.greatsaltlakephotos.com) as our guide. In this image you see a portable tungsten spot lighting up the brides face. I have used portable battery powered tungsten spots since 1981!!!!! PP3%20May0824%20blog3.jpg( Yes I know a lot of young speakers think they invented that.) It has been used in film forever and it was while working as the still photographer on a movie in Paris, France summer 1981 I discovered it and it sure changed my thinking.

Facial Analyzes

Today I want to show you 2 images from last Saturdays Photographing People Part 2 class. Alyssa is a beautiful girl but let's do a closer analysis of what happens to her face with two different expressions. It is amazing what changes a face makes when you go from a serious expression to a smile. Too many people judge a photo on how happy or smiley a person looks, maybe because too many people are told from the time they are kids to smile at the camera. I will comment under each picture individually.alyssa0975blogser%20copy2.jpg

This is a very classic but good light when normal make up is applied. Look at the size of her eyes compared to the smiley one, and also the jaw line to the right, I think she is a classic beauty.alyssa0979blogsmile%20copy.jpg

In this smiley one we see her eyes getting smaller which is the case with most people, also look at her chin and jaw line. I always shoot for different expressions to show different sides of a person, but, yes I do love her big beautiful eyes and the clean lines in the top image.

Best time to shoot during a Wedding Reception!

There is a period of about 20 minutes of a Wedding Reception I get VERY active. It's when the balance between the sky and room is perfect. Indoors it will give you perfect blue in the windows; outside just the very best blue sky. The image in today's blog is from an atrium so it has a glass roof. Take advantage of this time to get the best overviews, it starts usually around 5-10 minutes after the sun is down. I'm excited about our next Wedding School sponsored by Canon and The International School of Photography March 3-5th at Pictureline, Salt Lake City, Utah.See link: education at kennethlinge.com. We also have a few places left for our Photographing People Part 1 seminar (all levels) in Salt Lake City this Saturday the 26th. My first week of Studio consulting in Denmark is sold out, but I have some openings week 2, Feb.18-20th.
Hope you all have a great Martin Luther King Day, what a great man!AD%20dancing%20blog.jpg

I found this image free to use on Internet and sure enjoy watching how the different lights create the mood. Light is just so important in what we create. I wish it said who made it, since I do prefer to give credit for what I used, requered or not. Well done whoever you are.
